Preston, good for spotters?

Is Preston good for spotting? Have not been for years, usually go to Doncaster or Warrington Bank Quay. What do you get through there these days?

Also, is there somewhere good to park nearby?

Preston is alright, at least all the trains have to pass through the station
It's almost the same as Carlisle in terms of freight, however you will lose the Frieghtliner coals (which use the Settle line)

As for parking, if it is for several hours then there is plenty of on-street parking within reasonable walking distance (Cliff Street area), although it can appear full between 08:30 and 11:00 on weekdays

not too bad for spotting plenty of variety. admittedly carlisle is better for spotting and photographing.

i will admit preston is not good for photos. lanacaster is good as has the through linem had spme good photos at oxonholme as well and also carlisle. I would recomend carlisle the most as there is sheer variety, not only with stuff coming off the s&C but also for stuff off the workington branch line as well

I went to Leyland last month, one south of Preston, and found it very good for photos!
