Seems like half of the North West is replaced by Buses on Saturday 4 March and Sunday 5 March.

From Blackpool-Wigan/Blackburn/Manchester from what I can see in RTT which is quite lengthy.

What are the works taking place which requires this?

Reballasting of the S&C at Preston is the major job. Track renewals elsewhere.
