Your railway does however offer through National Rail ticketing from a number of stations with the fares issued to G048 'Pickering NYMR' which is what is being referred to, rather than interavailable tickets between Whitby and Grosmont which is a different thing.

As an example a Middlesbrough to Pickering Off Peak Day Return including a return journey on the NYMR from Grosmont to Pickering is £24.60.

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/prbe063355ea4fa198395981f70f4c72.aspx That's all according to this anyway which states a return is a £16 add-on to the normal fare which works out correctly for the example above based on a Middlesbrough to Grosmont CDR at £8.60.

If that's wrong someone needs to be telling National Rail/Rail Delivery Group as all of the above clearly suggests validity on the Northern service to Grosmont and then onwards to Pickering.

A Grosmont-Pickering return is £24 (off-peak) or £26 (peak) so the £16 add-on is quite a bargain.

A great bargain, but one you CANNOT buy. Try Northern's own website and you will find the fare doesn't exist. Nor is the webpage (ast updated in 2014) correct, as the NYMR does NOT accept through ticketing. The error is being taken up with the RDG database, where the inaccuracy seems to sit. The G048 Pickering NYMR destination is NOT available.

To be ABSOLUTELY clear - the NYMR does NOT accept through ticketing. Should anyone manage, which cannot happen as there is no available fare - I checked with Whitby booking office and the fare quoted on BRFares (who have said they take the information from the ATOC/RDG database) is not available from the system. The error on the database is being taken up, but Northern's own website has no such destination, they do show Pickering Eastgate, by bus, but even that doesn't lead to a fare available. There used to be through ticketing, but was withdrawn some years ago.

Incidentally (I'm a national network guard) I've just looked up Middlesbrough to Pickering NYMR through journey and I can issue the ticket on Envoy with the 16 quid supplement. I've not done so because that would cause a paperwork issue but it will let me get to the point of sale (confirming cash tendered which means it's checked it's a fare that can be physically issued). I've PM'd you some photos if that's helpful.

So the fares are certainly there and live.

Thanks for that information and that the fare may be live on your Envoy machine, however these will not be accepted on the NYMR. Through ticketing ceased a number of years ago. Whilst it would cause some customer service issues for the NYMR any such ticket holder would be referred back to the seller, as the NYMR does not accept through ticketing. If anyone wants to check the Northern Railway site, or National Rail, then they will find Pickering shows only Pickering (by bus), or Eastgate (which is the bus stop in Pickering for the 840 Whitby to Leeds service). This is an available fare from Virgin through ticketing to Whitby BY BUS, but not NYMR. Shouls Northern sell such a ticket it is rather likely to lead to some seriously upset customers. difficult for both companies. As you will see earlier in the thread the booking office manager of the NYMR has clarified that they do not accept through ticketing and is dealing with the RDG to ensure that Northern's error in not removing the add-on years ago is corrected!

PS tickets are presently NOT inter-available between Grosmont and Whitby either, when there are issues each company has to agree to accept the other's tickets, as per other companies - such as GC/Virgin tickets not being inter-available without specific agreement on the day. Northern have been very helpful in accepting NYMR passengers during disruption and vice versa, a good working relationship but not inter-availability of ticketing

Blood and Sand! I don't normally discuss other heritage lines but the NYMR is not coming across as 'easy to do business-with'. There is a whole world of ticketing options out there - why not grasp those opportunities with both hands?

Just why is it that the NYMR is coming across as not 'easy to do business with'? Yes, there are a whole world of ticketing options out there, but if another company erroneously offers a ticket, which is not agreed with the NYMR, just how can that be the fault of the NYMR? It is not the NYMR who are refusing to accept a ticket, it is that the ticket doesn't exist for them!

If another operator was selling through tickets to another heritage line, without the agreement of said heritage line, would it be the fault of the operator selling it, or the heritage line for not accepting it (allowing for the fact that without any agreement saif heritage line wouldn't be receiving any income at all...)

So, let's get this right. Northern have a through ticket available in the ticketing system albeit not on the website (that's quite common, not all fares are available through retail websites) and you are not aware of it? I would suggest that you need to have a word with them and get to understand what is available, what is actually live and then agree what should be on offer. In the meantime, take a look at your comments on this thread: it is all about not accepting, not allowing and generally rather shouty. Now, I love the NYMR and see what a tremendous job it does but I'm afraid that your posts put-up a very unfriendly façade to the casual reader.

Remember, if you purport to speak on behalf of a railway, then you must consider how your words are interpreted.

OK apologies - the NYMR do not have a through ticket agreement with any other railway operator, despite what those ticket sellers may show. If someone buys a ticket form them the NYMR does not acknowledge the legitimacy of such a ticket (is that less 'negative than saying we don't accept it? Should someone present such a ticket we would have to refer them back to the seller, as it is not one which is valid on the NYMR, is that less 'negative' than saying we don't allow it? Just how does one state that there is a mistake on some other company's datase that shows they sell an invalid ticket? Do we just accept/allow then forego the income, as there is no reciprocal revenue allocation agreement? If someone called at your house and said that Bill's garden centre have sold me your roses and I am here to dig them up would you say 'cheers, mate, no problem' , or would you fail to accept that sale/allow the digging up? Clearly the right hting to do is allow/accept the digging up as otherwise you would be being very negative?
Let's just be very clear - THE NYMR HAVE NO ACCEPTED THROUGH TICKETING FROM NR TOCS, whoever takes money of the unsuspecting member of the public. If it was me I would let the person travel, but take the ticket off them so that I could ensure we send an invoice to the seller for the full fare, which would clearly wipe out what they charged for Middlesbrough to Pickering as it is more than that!
I am happy that the EVR have through ticketing, but that must be a bit of a drain as the add-on is much less that your fare otherwise, how does that affect your income?

PS Northenr may have a ticket 'available', but it isn't available really as it is not valid. tehy may sell it, but it isn't approved by the railway they purport to offer the fare for
