Prescription medication

Hi, I've got a entry Medical coming up soon.
When I declare that I'm on medication, will they
give me a decision on the day or go they look into it
and get back to me? Thanks

Obviously it will depend on the medication and the role concerned. If it is something lots of people take there will probably already be a standard policy on whether it is allowed or not. If it is something rarer then they may wish to contact your doctor for further information before making a decision.

it may also help if you bring in the box that your drugs come in as it may help the medics.

When i started my job on dispatch & declared my medication, i had to get a letter from my GP stating no side effects & that they have no concerns toward the medication jeopardizing mine, or anyone elses safety.

The letter was not necessary really as any Doctor will have a lot of experience in side effects of most medication types and have access to MIMMS or a BNF if they need reminding.

The legal side is down to you being honest in a medications' effects. Is this diazepam, for example, making you unfit to drive?

If you answer "No." but six months later you kill and injure 100 people you will be prosecuted, irrespective of what a GP letter states, because of the levels of diazepam in your blood, rather than relying upon you verbally saying you're fit to drive.

Had I not received the "all clear" from my doc the I would have failed the medical and not got the job. So I would say it was necessary. I see what you're getting at though but for me to pass the medical the company conducting the medical requested the extra info from my GP, whether or not you find it necessary, in my case it actually was
