Strange one today. I had an interview last year but sadly didnt get the job for a grade 2 signaller. Well i reapplied for a grade 4 signaller and my test scores were still good enough. At the same time i applied for openreach as an engineer. I was actually offered that job this morning and literally 15 mins later i was offered an interview for the network rail grade 4 this Friday. Now because i failed the first interview last year i am sure i would fail again this year. Unsure what to do

Take the open reach job and also go to the signaller interview, if successful there then decide which job you would rather have!

Thats my plan. I can also go in there with less nerves as i have something lined up as a fallback. I hate my current job so to have 2 potentials has taken a huge amount of pressure off of me.

That's it mate, it will probably enable you to perform better in the interview as well with less pressure! I wouldn't be roo disheartened that you did not get the job last time either, it takes the majority of people many attempts to get their foot on the ladder with the railway. Just go in there and give it your best and see what happens.

100% take the Openreach job.

Recruitment on the railway as seen throughout this forum can be slow at times. You can attend the interview knowing you have a new role that is likely to be more enjoyable than the one you have right now, but can always turn round to Openreach in a few months time and say "this just isn't for me" if you do well enough to be offered the G4 Signaller position.

Great to be in another forum with people having the same frustrations as me! Been unsuccessful for three signaller jobs now so am guessing my online scores though reaching the benchmark weren’t particularly good. Impressed with the inside information in regards to what posts have gone already.....any news on Wimbledon or West Hampstead????
