Prague to Pilsen

I'd like to do a trip on this route for a day trip next week. Maybe do Pendolino out and a EC back if the schedule works, though I think the Munich train schedule would mean its better to do Pendolino both ways.

I noticed that 1st class on Pendolino gets a free refreshment and 2nd class a cold beverage

Is it worthwhile going 1st for this short journey? There is a small sandwich offering I believe. How much does it cost without reservation? Because I think on this short route a reservation isn't necessary and it seems Prague-Pilsen is the only route its not obligatory.

AFAIK Prague to Pilsen the Pendolinos are compulsory reservation, but not beyond there. The fee is 35CZK or about £1, and the CD Website will tell you the fares. 2nd in a Pendolino gets you 3 across seating which is otherwise rare in CZ.
There are no discounted fares in 1st.

Remember that the Pendolinos and the ECs formed of Czech stock have restaurants at inexpensive prices.

I misread the compulsory reservation section, you are indeed correct. So its 100 CZK each way plus 35 CZK reservation or 240 CZK 1st Class plus 70 CZK for the reservation. Given the ability to chose a seat on 2nd class, I think I will do that!

I've noticed that the CD seem to have a 'happy hour' for services that are running through CZ domestic stations which is the normal rate on the Pendolino.

As a bit of a foodie, I think the Pendolino's offer re-heated dishes like on VTEC vs freshly prepared dishes on the EC trains.
