Prague to Pilsen

Hi All,

I'm going to be doing this in July, does anyone have any tips re trains, places of interest along the way? Is it possible to break the journey either there or back? Is it advantageous to book in advance? Also am I likely to see any freight at Pilsen? I've never seen any freight at Prague before.

Been looking at www.cd.cz for a trip in May so...

There are Advance type tickets but these are only tied to a specific day not train and AFAIK BOJ is allowed on them. (The booking engine reverts to their Czech names.)

You need a supplement/reservation for the two Pendolinos daily, costing all of £1

Brewpub at Beroun just outside the station parallel to the railway line

Another vote from me for the brewpub in the scrapyard at Beroun, Berounsky Medved. Class beer, decent grub and a novel location.
You should see some freight at Plzen, i'm not really into the freight side of things but I've seen car trains and other unidentified stuff (maybe grain for the brewery? ) passing through.

Regarding booking ahead, I've never had a problem finding a seat in a 1st class, normally get a whole compo to myself. 2nd class gets a bit busier though.

In Plzen itself I can recommend U Salzmannu for lovely Czech food and divine Pilsner Urquell hth

Since shortly one can now use onlinetickets on every train, no need more to specify which one. Normal tickets allow unlimited breaks but ONLY after 100 kms, thus not on this route!
But this is again a route where the train looses out, buses run ev 30 mins, via a motorway and are also cheaper.
