Yeah - and I bet many people don't really care if they're shoving it in the wrong way.
If people took more care, we'd be in a better position.

Using a USB-A port is incredibly simple.

1) Take cable. Insert in socket.
2) Realise it's the wrong way, flip, try again.
3) Realise it's still the wrong way, flip, try again.
4) Done.

The USB reliability issue is _exactly_ why train companies are probably going to be keen on inductive charging stations instead of USB

Loved looking at those pictures, Wow their trains have, what looked like sofas, Why don't gwr think of something like that. They looked more comfortable than ours. Also it looks then, that usb and 3 pin sockets will eventually be phased out.

Same here.

The USB point I was sat next to as just that - no "normal" 3-pin plugs! Silly in my opinion. I may not use the 3-pin plug all the time, but I'd like to have the option of using one!

On the other hand, the absence of a 3-pin plug is a good way to discourage people from plugging in hair curlers, mini-fridges and space heaters...

Generally wonderful for the first year then rubbish forever more.

Am on a TPE 185 where the sockets were amazing after the refurb, only to find not working again.

Sadly, I guess some people really are stupid enough to plug high current/wattage appliances into the inverter supply...

The answer to that ought to be to arrange for them to trip out (preferably self-resetting after a few seconds) at about 1 amp. I think that's what happened when I plugged a rather large laptop into a socket on an Emirates A380.

The 3-pin-only sockets on the 24 Transport for Wales 158s are "hit and miss" 7-8 years after having been fitted. Some of them work, some of them don't and some of them have plug pins stuck in them.

Probably best to report that to train crew as those pins may be live and saves somebody from having a shock!

I think I did, but was told to "report" it myself, which I didn't...

No, just a slightly more powerful business laptop as I sometimes run simulations etc. May well be that the socket was faulty, but I think there was a light to indicate it was working which went off when I plugged in and came on again a few seconds after unplugging.
