Power Points In Standard Class

I'm just trying to find out which TOC's have power points in standard class.

Virgin (Pendolino) - table seats, and only the ones next to a window
FGW (HST) - every row of seats (in the middle)
CrossCountry/Virgin (Voyager) - every row (next to the window)
East Coast (HST/91) - every row (next to the window)
SWT (444) - table seats
SWT (450) - High capacity sets that use to have first class

Any others?

The ex HT 170s on Scotrail have then next to the windows, although reseating has made some inaccessible.

The buffet issue on the HST is the same as the first class one, the kitchen takes all the power. Not really a problem when it was a restaurant (or quite coach)

Chiltern's ex WSMR mark 3 coaches have power points (and free WiFi) in standard class too. There is also a power point by the doors in the saloon of a 165, its for the cleaners to plug in appliances and is marked not for public use. I'm not sure how aggressively that is policed, or if it is policed at all.

The labelling is possibly there for your benefit, the socket might not provide decent quality 230V when the train is moving.

Plugged my phone into it more times than I care to remember and it's worked every time. I'd agree it is very much use at your own risk though, I think the sign is just a relic of a time where sockets were not intended for passengers and there is no real reason to change it. You can only really reach the socket if you are sitting on the floor anyway (or of course, leave your phone plugged in when travelling ECS )

It does slightly annoy that even where there's sockets at every row, there's almost always only half as many sockets as seats.

I have never understood why Voyagers have a socket at every row of seats, but Pendolinos don't. It's really annoying when you board a Pendolino expecting to charge your mobile, and forget that most of the seats don't have sockets! In this day and age, you really do expect a socket for every two seats.

Definitely that isn't the case. Supposedly 158s alternators are not strong enough, but ATW seem to have made it happen...

Fairly sure it is. Ask Kneedown, he'll confirm one way or another. It's one of the contributing factors for the EMT 158s now being 'relatively' poor performers.

But when you look at the average age of most buses / coaches they are a lot younger. How many 20 year old buses are in squadran service? In fact are there any buses from the 70s still on the road, the mid 90s are the oldest ones I really see in service (except School runs)

ATW do have sockets on the table seats on the refurbished class 158's, It's a pity they didnt do it with the class 175's when they were refurbished.

However it can be hit and miss with the ATW class 158' each time i have tried to use them they are never working.

Another point i have been told by someone who travels on the FGW's hst's is that if 1 socket doesnt work then you can garauntee that the rest of the electrical sockets in that carriage are not either

At tables on Class 180s, I couldn't tell you if they have them on airline-style seats too.

Correct, but I sincerely hope that the whole scheme falls flat on its face and it becomes one of the most unpopular transport decisions since Beeching. Quite how councilors in one of the most intelligent cities in the world approved that is beyond me :roll:

Absolutely 100% definitely they don't have sockets. Annoyingly, before they were refurbed, the TPE ones DID (well, a couple in former first class, and then only when they were working).

I'd love to be corrected on this since I use them all the time and it would save me the £50 Dell want for a new battery...

Correct, no powerpoints in Standard when I was on a 444 on Saturday, between Southampton Central and Fareham (a bit off-route, but there was a reduced service).
