I see that the 1141 Orpington to Cannon Street (2F31) service departed Hither Green at 1158 today, at which point it hit a power failure, possibly caused by a lightning strike.
SouthEastern Twitter reported at 12:43 that a rescue train was being sent from Lewisham.
This was later updated at 13:45 to say a rescue train was leaving London Bridge
The rescue train arrived at 1413 and a train to train evacuation commenced.
The passengers on the trapped service were finally delivered back to Hither Green station at 1438, some 2hrs 40 minutes after they departed,
The trapped train was finally moved at 1709 and the first train through was about 20 minutes later.
Observations
That was a long time to be trapped on a train with no power. Surprisingly given the history of SouthEastern passengers, it appears that nobody chose to self-evacuate.
This happened very close to a SouthEastern depot, Network Rail depot, Balfour Beatty engineering depot and freight yard At Grove Park/Hither Green. Why did it take over two hours for a rescue train to arrive, apparently from London Bridge?
Once the evacuation took place (which seemed to be very quick once on site) did it still take 2 hours to move the stricken train?

SouthEastern really are having a nightmare week so far. Power problems outside Hither Green yesterday, and today heavy impact from a signal/points fault near Waterloo East, and just as that gets fixed, a fire in the arches underneath the railway has now blocked all lines from London Bridge to Waterloo East.
