hopefully someone can help me.

I have never been to potters bar station before, however I plan to go there on Saturday to see Deltic. I know it can change but according to RTT it will go through platform 2. Train services only serve platform 1 and 4. Is platform 2 accessible to public or am I going to have a struggle?

Any help please would be great.

You can access platform 2, both 1&2 are an island together with 3&4 an island on the other side.

I see these fences - as long as they are only waist high* - as an advantage photographically as if you are at the fence you are guaranteed that nobody will get in the way.

*Which I have only ever seen to be the case.

According to the schedule, the train will go through platform 3 at Potters Bar. Potters Bar does not have any fences or gates on the platforms, so you should have a clear view of that platform. However, a VTEC train from Inverness is due to go through platform 2 at the same time as the Deltic would pass, which might block your view.

If I may give you a suggestion: go to Hatfield instead. You should be able to get a good view from the far end of platform 1, without getting bothered by any passing trains for a couple of minutes.
