A right mixed bag in terms of weather coming up this week, which could cause some travel disruption.

From tonight, almost anywhere across the country could see some snow falling. Throughout the week, there will be a ‘battle’ between colder artic air and milder Atlantic air. Depending on what side of the boundary you’re on, you may experience heavy rain or heavy snow. This ‘tug of war’ between both air masses may last right up to the weekend.

One thing for sure is that there is going to be a lot of moisture in the air, so flooding could be an additional issue where snow melt occurs.

The weather models are still all over the place, however at this current time, parts of Scotland, Northern and Central areas are at the most risk of seeing the highest snow totals. Some of which may be quite disruptive where accumulations build up.

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning of snow starting from 21:00 tonight, affecting areas of Northern Scotland, the North East, the Midlands, South Wales & Southern England.

GTR have now put out a warning for possible disruption on their network for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Met office Weather warning for end of the week has been updated, but still remains very uncertain on location detail. Somewhere looks like it could be buried, but somewhere could be anywhere from the Midlands to the Central Highlands. Though only a yellow warning because of low confidence in location, it is at the highest end of the impacts scale, so if things continue to evolve this has potential to be a Red Warning event.
Yellow-Snow-30-40cm-sm.jpg
Higher elevations, mainly above 150m, of the North Pennines, Southern Uplands, parts of the Central Belt and the southern Highlands may see as much as 30 to 40 cm of snow in places. In addition, there is potential for strong winds, which may lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow.

Potentially coming to somewhere! The M80 under the E&G in the 2018 Beast from the East.

This is very much a ‘nowcasting’ moment and a ‘look out the window to see what’s falling out of the sky’ kind of event.

The models and certainly automated weather apps are already wrong with the track and intensity of the incoming low pressure.

I recommend having a look at the live rainfall radar as that will be the most accurate and up to date information you can get in terms of current weather conditions.

Low pressure is currently approaching from the South West and bumping into colder air, heading in a general east/north easterly direction. When and where it snows is a live event.

Needless to say, it will be along just in time to screw up my weekend.

Snow settled on the ground in SE London this morning, which doesn’t happen that often! SE warning that routes may need to close early this evening, but don’t seem to have been too badly affected this morning.

Don't worry, Army, NATO & UN forces are being dispatched to the SE as we speak. Meanwhile in t'grim Oop'North, we are checking if we have our big coats out of the cupboards... ;)

You do tend to be rather braver about it!

To be fair it does happen more, especially when you get into the wildlands of Yorkshire. But still it does amuse us when the media goes into overdrive when London sees snow of any amount!!

In Surrey, we woke up to around 2cm of very wet snow this morning, which melted from the roads almost immediately and which is now going fast everywhere else at 2C. However, our supermarket delivery for this afternoon has been cancelled "due to severe weather"! Pathetic. Meanwhile the hyping BBC News item claims that last night was Scotland's lowest-ever March temperature, at -15.4C. This is badly wrong, as on 14 March 1958 it dropped to -22.8C in the highlands.

Yes, the low is further north than some models predicted, giving rain in the south and snow from the Midlands northwards. Probably up to double figures centigrade tomorrow around London.

I think this so called Snow event has been blown out of all proportion by the media. Given the current temperature here 2c, anything falling out of the sky will have great difficulty accumulating on the ground in these conditions. Hardly the beast from the east more like a pest from the west. Any thing to sell papers I think.

Certainly for the South it’s been nothing more than a couple of centimetres before quickly thawing during the morning. The South will see mostly sleet and rain.

The main interest lies for Central and
Northern areas, as well as Wales for this evening and overnight.

Didn’t realise that Bristol and Bath were “north of the Midlands”!

There was an overnight dusting of snow here on Monday night, but it was gone shortly afterwards. There was a brief flurry last night, but again there's nothing lying today. It's currently bright and clear and there is a good view of the snow-capped hills across the Firth.

Yes, it's a lovely day here in Glasgow too, albeit with a bit of chill on the breeze.

Snow settled on the ground in SE London this morning, which doesn’t happen that often! SE warning that routes may need to close early this evening, but don’t seem to have been too badly affected this morning.

The Northern Line managed a gapped train overnight, which turned out not to be gapped at all, so may well have been due to ice (though it wasn’t particularly cold overnight). Then a whole load of small stuff in the morning, mainly unheated points giving trouble. The snow that did fall was that particularly fine and powdery type.

Roads seemed to be coping ok in the morning, though as usual the usual issues with people who don’t understand how to drive in ice/snow. Biblical amounts of grit seemed to have been put down, to be fair.

I think down here most people were tetchy after December’s snow which seemed to catch everyone out. Both rail and road were very badly affected that night. Doesn’t seem to have been a repeat of that so far, no doubt helped by the temperature not having dropped as much this time.

Really not sensible to be carrying boxes when there is snow or ice about, full marks to the supermatker for putting staff in front of profit, if the decision had to be taken later to cancel all frozen and refrigerated foods would have to be binned.

Quite right, I'll agree 100% with you there.

It's been snowing in The Ford of Here since around 7am, mostly pretty light stuff and melting when it hits the ground in well-used areas. There is quite the chill in the wind mind, that's not been nice at all today!

Getting heavier again here, but the ground is all rather wet where it's melted. As it's getting mighty cold out there, overnight it might turn to ice and that has potential to cause a lot of issues tomorrow.

Somewhere between Llandrindod Wells and Kington on the A44, probably west of New Radnor where the road goes up into the hills and gets all twisty, there is a report of a jack-knifed lorry causing issues and cancelled buses. Between Kington and Knighton, no bus at lunchtime due to the weather and it was hoped there would be one in the afternoon. Given how rural that route is, and the A44 for that matter, I'm not surprised at either event.

Ooh I've just looked out of the window again and the snow's now sticking to the roofs of the houses across the road. That's always a sign of it being mighty cold outside, when those roofs go white then it's time to stay indoors unless essential to go out!

Attached are two almost-inner-city scenes live from Hereford this afternoon. As you'll see, it's not too bad so far and been like that most of the day.

But the roads around here in Surrey were just wet, at +2C, so no ice at all. In March 2018 (the Beast) we never missed a delivery despite deep snow and widespread ice. It really has just been wet snow on the grass and nothing on the roads here. Many people here have had their stuff cancelled in what is essentially patchy slush except above about 500 feet and are not happy! It seems that as vehicle technology and capabilites progress, their real life willingness to get through declines, and the same goes for the railways!

Followed a BMW (on my way to work) where the only thing cleared was the windscreen. Cue huge chunks of snow flying off the roof so had to drop back!

Why is it so hard for people not to brush the roof?

Sorry to be abrupt but you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about.

If you think snow falling but not settling is reason to cancel van loads of shopping deliveries, many of which will be destined for the vulnerable and elderly, then you're clearly not on this planet. Were you calling for all such deliveries to be suspended for days on end a few months back when there were thick frosts every morning making pavements treacherous? Of course you weren't.

And you reference cold and frozen shopping having to be binned - believe it or not, home delivery vans have fridges and freezers designed to keep shopping around +3 and -17 degrees respectively. If a van goes out and has to return early, all cold and frozen stock can be returned to in-store chillers and freezers for re-delivery or re-sale.

Seriously, get real.

And for what it's worth, yes I can speak from experience - it's a job I do casually for something to do every now and again.

It is concerning how there seems to be a spiral of decline in any willingness to carry out normal activities in slightly abnormal weather! I wonder how long it may be before rain is used as a reason to cancel such things, as paths can become 'treacherous' when wet. Of course, it's already usually the case that wet floors in stations cause more danger from all the yellow cones dumped everywhere which tell sighted people that the floor is wet (which they can see for themselves) but which blind people have to negotiate as well as the wet floor!

Almost certainly very mild in England by then, unless you're planning to visit Tan Hill!

It's not hard, it's just the endemic laziness and rush of society today.

Yes, but here in Surrey, is certainly isn't like that - slushy snow on grass and nothing on most roads, given that it is +2C. Obviously if the conditions genuinely are dangerous it's fine to adapt to them, but they are very tame down here (except on the very highest hills, which is not where supermarket food depots are).

Like it or lump it deliveries are getting cancelled because Health & Safety takes precendent over someones food delivery.
Currently in Mid Wales atleast 3 A roads are now closed, and numerous other roads.

Indeed, a chilly breezy day here in Clydebank, but with plenty of sun. Will defo be keeping an eye on the forecast over the next 2-3 days though.

Side and rear windows, plus all lights should be visible, but I really don’t see how clearing the roof is necessary.

If you had to drop back, you were probably too close- especially in snowy/icy conditions and what’s the worst that’s going to happen? It’s something that falls naturally from the sky in the first place and your wipers will easily deal with it.
