On Thursday 23rd/Fri 24th I had a journey with Aer Lingus from Orlando to Birmingham via Dublin. Obviously because of the weather we were disrupted.
The Original schedule was MCO-DUB 1955-0900 DUB-BHX 1145-1250. The MCO-DUB flight ended up leaving at 2330 and arriving into DUB at 1130. We were rebooked onto the 1855 to BHX arriving into BHX at 2006. 7hrs and 16 mins late. So the question to the more knowledgeable, is there any chance of any compensation? And just to rub it in the checked bags were also mislaid finally arriving home around 1400 on Sunday the 26th

First step surely, is to contact Aer Lingus themselves?
They likely had no influence in the mis-directed baggage; but the impact of your 7+ hours late arrival to Birmingham must be worth you pursuing a goodwill gesture from them.
Different airlines take different approaches.
Alternatively, does your travel insurance cover a delay due to bad weather? I don't know of any which do, however - only if it's abandonment.

2005, I had a delayed Air India connecting flight (Trivandrum to Colombo) which missed my Air India Colombo to Heathrow.
By the time we'd arrived at Colombo, there was a fleet of taxis ready to take affected passengers (with our checked luggage) to a beach resort, with rooms and food laid on gratis.
Return flight advised to us and taxis took us back to Colombo for our Heathrow flight.
Top marks, Air India!

I have lodged a claim with Aer Lingus I just wanted to be forearmed with advice should they say I am entitled to nothing. I am guessing they will just say "Weather not our problem guv"

If the delay is weather related, you don't get any compensation. However, the duty of care still applies, so you can claim any reasonable costs incurred for accommodation, meals, roaming or transport between airport & accommodation; keep the receipts and submit a claim after you arrive.

There is no entitlement to compensation for delayed bags (regardless of reason) but you can similarly claim any reasonable costs (up to approx £1600) you incur as a result of the delay. If you're on your way home it would usually be expected that you'd have sufficient spare clothes etc. that you wouldn't incur any costs, but it will be situation dependent.

As I expected really. Because it was weather related I knew they'd get out of it. Pity it wasn't a train journey then I'd have had a full refund. I wasn't expecting anything for the bags I just mentioned it as a final nail in the coffin of an horrible journey

Only if you didn’t travel.

Duty of care still applies so feel free to submit receipts for any food you bought in Dublin Airport. But beyond that the weather can’t be helped and it’s always a risk of air travel. It doesn’t help that the Aer Lingus Regional flights are always the first to be binned off when Dublin has to implement slot restrictions.
