Hey all

In august I intend to go to Holland and one of the days was going to do a full day of photting and was wondering in southern holland where would be the best place to go considering I will be staying in eindhoven.

If you could help that would be great!!!

All the best.

Hi Scott

Most places are commutable in this tiny little country so there could be a few options

eg. Dordrecht - mostly local trains, Rotterdam - Thalys, Benelux + local, Utrecht - ICE + local.

Or you could come to my desk in Amsterdam as I sit right over the railway into centraal station with ICE, Thalys, VRMs, Koplopers, DDM, Traxx locos, City Nightline etc etc. :D

It all depends what trains you want to photo, there is also the possibility of going into Belgium and photoing the Thalys and ICE between Brussels and Cologne

regards

Scott,

Check out Betuweroute - a new freight route linking Rotterdam to The Ruhr in Germany.

The lines southwards from Eindhoven to Maastricht and Venlo are pretty sweet as well.

I would say there are 3 heritage railways in the Netherlands that are worth a look at also:

Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (south-central Netherlands)
Stoom Stichting Nederland + museum (Rotterdam)
Stoomtram Hoorn-Medemblik (Northern Holland)

Hope this helps,
