Spotted this in 'The Sunday Times' appointments section.

I'll copy the relevant part of the text:

Managing Director, residential led major mixed use development, East Midlands, six figure basic + bonus + package.

Our client, a FTSE 250 plc, top 10 residential developer, achieves revenues in the region of £500m with margins that consistently out perform their sector. They now seek to appoint a visionary Managing Director to deliver a highly significant, sustainable and thriving township - where people will want to work and live. Over the next decade, a pioneering commercial centre will be created, incorporating 3,200+ private and social residential units, over 230,000 sq.m. of business and retail generating up to 7,500 jobs, £100m of infrastructure projects: a railway station, roads, 3 rail and 4 river bridges, enhanced by extensive community facilities including 2 primary schools.
ENDS
Grammar above is theirs....

I guess the motorway junction is M1 J25, which would make the river the Trent. Is anything known about the proposed new station, please?

I don't think it would be the Trent, as there are no new stations planned and any undeveloped areas are likely to be flood plain. Probably the Erewash at the East Midlands HS2 station, where housing etc is being seriously talked about, or possibly Ilkeston where a station was recently agreed though I'm not aware of any surrounding development being proposed.

Is it possible that the "map" is just a generic illustration of planning rather than a particular location?

If the black line is a railway then there are two stations on it, one quite close to the pink dot. It would not appear that there would be a need for a new station in that instance.

It seems to be an aspiration of a development company to get a new station to serve the new development opposed to a Network Rail approved plan that will go ahead.

I know in my local area Tatton Estate Management are proposing an expansion to the Parkgate area of Knutsford with a new station as part of the plan. However, it is not seen as a short-term plan as Tatton Estate Management see the new station as being served by a regular tram-train service between Northwich and Manchester, which itself is a proposal not a definite.

Sorry didn't see the map last time round, but I don't think it fits anywhere in the East Midlands.

There is a planning application in progress for the redevelopment of the old Stanton iron works which falls between J25 and J26 on the M1, the application is for a large "village" with schools, businesses and leisure areas. As far as i know there is no plans for a station but there is talk of one for the old Ilkeston junction area approx 2 miles away (Think this has been approved now).

I don't think it's a real map with names and details removed, even if it's been rotated. I don't think there's a junction on the M1, M69, M42 or A42 in that geographical relationship to a railway. I've just done a quick search on the OS Landranger mapping on streetmap.co.uk. I could have missed one but I don't think so. I think it's either an imaginary map or a grossly distorted real one.

3,200+ housing units, (up to!) 7,500 jobs, 2 primary schools etc, etc.

Forgive me for being sceptical but believe it when it happens!

Could this area of Bedfordshire really be described as meeting the advertisement location criteria of being situated in the East Midlands ?
It's well north of Watford so you could almost say it's surprising they don't describe it as the north.

Here's the Wikipedia page on Wixams.

What are the chances of Wixams station* opening within the next few years (and could it somehow be tied into the Thameslink project)?

*although the station itself would be closer to Kempston Hardwick than Wixams, of course.

There are plans of doing this adjacent to Rugby Funnily enough Mugby, they want to build quite alot of new homes, schools and have a new railway station on the Old Rugby radio station site which sits between the WCML and runs alongside the A5 which would make it a new smallish town, the DIRFT phase 2 or 3 is going to be going up there too.

Problem is, that it sits right on the warwickshire/northants border so different county councils might have different plans ideas and ideals.

Just for reference with this plan there is no river near by and it is technically more west mids than east mids ! :D

There's a massive new development planned for the Rushcliffe area south east of Nottingham, though I can't find exact details. It would appear to be just south of the River Trent. However, the nearest railway seems to be Netherfield/Radcliffe.

Anyone know what the single line runing roughly south is that I can see on Google maps just east of Holme Pierrepont and petering out in the middle of nowhere? It's on the latest OS map but not on 1940 or earlier

I thought the Rushcliffe development was in/adjacent to Edwalton? Although I did hear that they were going to build on the old Cotgrave colliery site, why anyone would want to live on top of an old mine I don't know

Hi there,
That's the link to the Cotgrave Colliery. Of course, it's now closed and as is quite standard for the area, the pit head area is now called a country park and bits are being looked at for new housing.

The colliery is a little different in that it only opened in the 1950's - hence why you don't see the line on a 1940's OS map. Out of interest, the north - east chord where the colliery line joins the Nottingham-Grantham line is on a standard looking embankment but the north - west chord is on a surprisingly modern concrete viaduct.
Seems a shame the railway infrastructure isn't used but I couldn't even think of an idea to re-use it, let alone come up with a viable business case...

Cheers,
Jason

On old-maps.co.uk 1967 it's shown as "mineral railway under construction".

Current large-scale OS maps show it as disused.

Sadly I can't find my old Baker rail atlas.

That would be the old branch to Cotgrave colliery which goes off at Rectory Junction. It has been disused for many years now.

There was a suggestion some time ago that it could possibly be connected to the northern end of the Old Dalby test track in order to re-create a through line from Nottingham to Melton Mowbray but it diverges at Rectory on a single line viaduct (with a tight curve) and this would be a very restricting factor.

Probably not much slower than the existing restriction on Rectory Junction and the Trent crossing (though that may be increased on the re-signalling). However the Cotgrave branch was always single line and widening either this viaduct or the A52 crossing would be difficult.

The largest proposed housing development in Rushcliffe is between the A52 and West Bridgford. It would have been adjacent to the original Edwalton station but the remaining section of that route (the test track) starts further south.

I have just accessed the web site of Vavanti, the executive search company who placed the advertisement in the Sunday Times, that is shown as a thumbnail sketch in the original posting of this thread. There is a little more information of the position resume of their positions section, but the important thing in my eyes is that a fifteen year time period is envisaged.
