Possible excess?

The fare from Coleshill Parkway To London Marylebone (Super off peak return with railcard) is £ 25.10. The same as Birmingham Moor Street To Marylebone.
As I am returning late evening from London. The journey planners wont let me purchase the return to Coleshill due to the RMT strike. (Saturday)
I have no problem getting a bus from Birmingham to Coleshill on the return. On the outward journey can I excess the ticket FOC?

There is no legal entitlement to an 'overdistance excess' and it is often difficult to obtain one - even more so where you really want to change the origin, rather than the destination.

I'm unsure which RMT strike you are referring to, but if it is means that there are trains in the morning but not the evening, you could simply search for an 'open return' as this will mean that return journeys generally aren't searched for.

Otherwise, you could try using one of the GTR or Southeastern websites, searching for an alternative date when there are trains to Coleshill, and then saving the fare you'd like as a favourite. This will then allow you to purchase that fare for an alternative date without having to check for services.

RMT members at CrossCountry are on strike this Saturday (13th April) in a dispute specific to XC:
