Is there a suitable place to ask for any info that people may find out regarding the day of the Queen’s funeral?

I, like I’m sure many others, have tickets booked (not involving London) for this day, and am unsure whether it being a bank holiday will mean disruption to the regular services.

If there’s another discussion on this somewhere please could someone point me to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if we go with a normal Monday timetable. Probably a bit late in the day now to go altering things

I wouldn't be surprised if there's some cancellations on the day due to traincrew making themselves unavailable for overtime. There's also a chance the sickness rate could be higher than average.

I wouldn't expect large scale alterations though.

I would expect substantial amounts of engineering work to get canned as well to open up the routes.

My TOC will be making alterations right up until the last minute. Plans are still changing as we speak.

Not sure there is any need for the tinfoil hat but I'll bite. My TOC will be taking on additional workloads and pulling people in on both a voluntary basis and as overtime. We are also making 'large scale alterations'

It’s a Normal weekday timetable on Monday 19th.

For every TOC ?

For every TOC ?

yes all of them (with a few small alterations for a few)

When might we know definitively whether our booked trains are running? I'm planning to use TfW x2 and Avanti on the afternoon of 19th.

The timetable isn’t changing for the 19th, so you’ll know now. Albeit Avanti will have its usual issues.

you’re not making large scale alterations to the base weekday timetable though. additions maybe…

Touché. Yes it's more of additions at the moment. Alterations are in the works I believe but it's changing as the days progress.

the alterations damn well ought not to be changing, as the book has closed for this week, and closes tomorrow for the weekend!

I think the baseline timetable for most TOCs are the same between Monday and Saturday, so it's just a matter of removing some peak trains to match the normal Saturday pattern.

Would imagine London services will be very busy before and after the funeral. Other routes across the country could well be very very quiet. It’s a bank holiday, large numbers of businesses are shutting up for the day (even some supermarkets are closing), and many people will be sat in front of the TV to watch the funeral. Expect some towns will see footfall comparable to Christmas Day.

Personally I think if people want to avoid being caught in disruption, which if that happens and they miss the funeral no doubt the Twitter team will sadly be in the firing line, then the day before on the Sunday would be much better to go to London.

If anyone who's used LNER recently then they'll hopefully have the common sense to go to London on the Sunday!

Baseline Monday timetable with additional trains where available to be planned in advance STP or Control VSTP on the day if the industry on the ball (mainly for coming out of London post event I’m thinking) and of course resource permitting !
Strengthening of sets where possible I would expect for operators that are not back to pre Covid formations

“A matter of removing some peak trains”… let me introduce you to a roomful of planners and you can let them know how easy it is
(sorry, made me have a bit of a chuckle)

On certain Southeastern routes the Saturday off-peak timetable is better than the weekday off-peak timetable.

A number of weekend Engineering Possessions for 17th and 18th of September are cancelled. this is an indication of how much extra passenger traffic the railway authorities are anticipating.

Extra services planned starting on Wednesday, even potentially including some all night services on some yet to be announced routes

Transport bosses have confirmed that extra train services will be running for people travelling to London to pay respects to the Queen.
Demand is expected to be particularly heavy from Wednesday, when the public can attend the lying-in-state at Westminster Hall from 17:00 BST.
The Rail Delivery Group said it was doing "all it can" to ensure smooth journeys during the period of mourning.
It also said a limited service would run through the night on some routes.

Depends if train crew diagrams have been set in stone or not. Could end up with possessions cancelled but no trains running where the possessions have been planned

They want to run extra trains, not remove trains. The normal Monday service will remain in place, with extras if possible

The normal opportunities, outside of the planned disruptive ones, will also likely be removed.

Crew diagrams often mean Jack Shee in this kind of situation. Just cancel all the diagrams and run whatever you want. It happens quite often. During Covid it was happening pretty much week to week (at my TOC) I could literally book on this afternoon to discover my entire diagram has been cancelled and I have to drive some random train into London and back all day.

Yes, but booking on and off times will be set in stone. No good you turning up at 14.00 only to find you were expected in an hour earlier.
And who's going to rewrite the timetable at such short notice? One thing during covid when the timetable has been binned for a much thinned out service. Not going to happen for a complete rewrite for a more intense service

My booking on/off times are able to be changed with just 16hr notice.

No good you turning up at 14.00 only to find you were expected in an hour earlier.

That's when things have gone totally wrong and would be a rostering error. What I'm talking about is leaving my booked times as is and then being able to run any train/service they ask

And who's going to rewrite the timetable at such short notice?

Generally I don't care about the timetable. It doesn't really affect my diagrams that much. You can change my diagram as many times as you like of just give me a composite on the day and the timetable never changes. You can literally create a crew diagram on the fly. We are shockingly flexible with many rostering scenarios for various flexible working baked in to our terms and conditions.

Not going to happen for a complete rewrite for a more intense service.

It wouldn't be the first time and it aint gonna be the last.

Even if people manage to get to London there are apparently 35 hour queues already let alone for the actual funeral day!

Considering that I'm supposed to be travelling to London on that date, I'm hoping that I am fortunate enough to deal with as relatively little disruption as possible.

Although the TOCs all seem to be doing everything they can to suitably handle the extra footfall, the passenger count is going to be huge and with limited resources available, there will be problems somewhere. If it was at all possible, I'd reschedule my trip.
