I don't know if I have posted on here before with regard to this subject. I was wondering what will happen to the track and current infrastructure including the rotting container crane at Portobello? I was wondering if they will be removed for any future improvements to the ECML etc, or is there any small plans to have some mini terminal for freight at all?

1987 is correct, some years later they dismantled one of the 2 container cranes and moved it to Mossend? There are some small industrial units there at the moment, but I wondered what the future holds for the site whilst infrastructure is more or less 98% still there. I had thought possibly removed in order for ECML improvements to be carried out or more industrial units?

Looking at it from a map above, it looks like quite a substantial large site that could be redeveloped.

I have always felt that some of the space could be used for realignment to improve Portobello Junction.

Is the old engineers test train still rotting in the sidings behind the industrial estate too, remember it was a magnet for the local delinquents for a while

I'm surprised they were not welded to the rails the amount of time they have been there.

You'd have thought that they'd either sell the lot for development or retain it,and use it for a small scale distribution yard like Needlefield in Inverness. I'd prefer they kept it, realigned the Portobello junction and used the rest as a small scale container transfer/distribution yard.
