My parents inform me that Radio Bristol had their annual item about the Portishead line being reopened a few weeks ago. A local was interviewed who said he wanted the line reopened even though he would never use it as it would clear the road for his car. I think there are a lot of people in Portishead who are of the same view. Christian Wolmar was also interviewed who was stating that an hourly service is of no use whatsoever. Whilst a higher frequency is desirable one does have to consider such examples as the Ebbw Vale line which operates an hourly service from a station outside of Ebbw Vale to Cardiff, which all the experts said would be a disaster and it must go to Newport. 4 cars are rammed in the peaks. Mid morning in holidays and on Saturdays 2 cars are full from half way down the valley.
