I know this because there was a nice big sign saying so. Any particular reason for the nice big sign?

There are thousands of railway locations such as junctions, level crossings, tunnels and bridges that are named and similarly signed, presumably for the benefit of train crew and track workers. But in the specific case of level crossings, perhaps it’s also considered useful for the public to be able to report where they are if there’s an emergency?

Possibly particularly prominent so that any member of the public reporting an incident on the phone doesn’t describe it as “Vicarage Road” (which is apparently the road going over the crossing) - of which I imagine there may well be several.

Pooley Green does have a bit of a history of accidents & damage to the gates, it's probably been phoned in more times than most.

Known generally as 'Pooley Green' within the industry in my time. It featured prominently for a while in endeavours to re work the timetable on the Windsor branch some years ago, in order to improve the working environment within Feltham panel box. Can't remember the full details now, but (AFAIR) there were issues within the box in relation to the timing of certain activities, which required one person to be in two places (in the box) at one time, every half hour, and so a proposed revamp of the Windsor line was looked in to, but couldn't be adjusted on a stand alone basis.
