From the pictures, it does seem to have gone down hill since I stayed at the one in Norfolk where I had a lovely time. However, this was in 1982, and I was five, so I perhaps wasn't particularly discerning at the time.
I did stay in the Adelphi in Liverpool a few years back, and there was a noteable feeling of faded grandeur to the place. That said, the bar was still open when I left it at about four in the morning, so that was a definate plus point.
