I was going to add this to an old thread but I see it's been closed. Seems a curious policy to close threads that are about continuing projects.

According to a website that's mainly about the Welsh Highland Railway but sometimes also includes other local transport news, the Pont Briwet contractors have changed the proposed construction method of the bridge.

Clearly the following means "lane" when it says "carriageway":

Good progress is being made with the Bont Briwet replacement road/rail bridge between Penrhyndeudraeth and Llandecwyn, giving improved access from the Harlech/Barmouth holiday area for visitors to the F&WHR. Full time traffic lights are already in operation and tolls are no longer being collected. Public exhibitions and information sessions have made the proposals clearer becoming clearer. The contractor offered an alternative construction method which was accepted by Network Rail and Gwynedd Council as the contractor did not want to construct a temporary Bailey bridge. The first phase of the new structure will see the Cambrian Line and one carriageway of the new two lane road bridge constructed west of the present bridge. The intention is to finish this by the end of 2013. The railway will then be slewed on to the new rail bridge during a week's closure in February. Such closures normally take place during school half term holidays as the line is used by pupils going to local schools. It is anticipated that road traffic will follow soon after.

Llandecwyn Halt will be reconstructed slightly to the south. The historic wooden trestle bridge will then be demolished and the easterly half of the new road bridge completed in its place. The scheme avoids the extended road closure of the original plans. The only significant closure proposed will be a fortnight in the Autumn. The Toll House will remain.

Gwynedd Council is keeping an open mind on the need for improvements to the approach roads at each end of the scheme. Heavy goods vehicles and buses will start using the bridge for the first time after opening, rather than going around the long way through Maentwrog and this may lead to problems in both Llandecwyn and Penrhyndeudreath. The section of road from Penrhyndeudraeth NR station to The Griffin cross roads will be widened, but it is not anticipated that any alterations to traffic flow or priorities will be made. This junction is already congested at times with heavy Summer tourist traffic on the A487. A traffic lights might be necessary here but a longer term option would be a Penrhyndeudraeth Bypass extending 1km partly alongside NR to the new Porthmadog Bypass roundabout in Minffordd. The Llandecwyn junction with the A496 will be looked at depending on whether there are any cost overruns on the scheme and when traffic flows stabilise. It is most likely to end up as a mini roundabout.

Recently a haul road has been constructed over the NR at each end of the existing bridge giving access to create the new embankments that will form the abutments. Signalman's huts have been erected both ends bilingually labelled Briwet Bridge North and Briwet Bridge South.

Quite interesting how they will do it. I used to live there when I was a child. Will be weird seeing the new bridge, haven't been there in years.
