Points failure at Sheffield

Another “live from our correspondent” moment. Just as the delayed 1S51 pulled in to P5 at Sheffield… points failure! Couldn’t move northbound, so everyone detrained while the set is shunted south and then back through P2… where we should have been, were it not for a delayed freight train holding everything else up. We’re 40 down as I write, the one behind (1E52?) is 10 down at the moment - bet a few run for it

They appear to be running now, no Trains running on the Lincoln line from Sheffield, delayed towards Meadowhall.

Looks like you’re terminating at Edinburgh - let’s hope you’re not travelling to Motherwell or Glasgow.

I presume the failure tonight was at Nunnery Main Line Junction. I was on a service from Huddersfield that was held at Meadowhall for a good twenty minutes. It was like I was back living in South Yorkshire, with disruption causing services to turn back near the Royal Mail Depot.

It was only affecting platforms 3, 4 & 5, but that would have taken us out, plus the Lincoln-Leeds, plus anything coming from the north that would usually use those platforms.

Quite a few passengers did head of the 4-car XC train on P1 when it pulled in. We left 54 minutes down, other services were doing odd things; the 1802 stopper ran via Altofts, omitting Castleford (a colleague was on it). I was only going as far as Leeds; annoyingly, we arrived 56 down. Four more minutes and I'd have got nearly £8 back...
