Podcasts you’d recommend?

I listen to about 10 hours of radio a day most days due to being self employed and working on my own nearly all of the time.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I listen to a lot of stuff on the BBC iplayer Radio site - including documentaries, comedy, plays etc.

I’d heard of the Guilty Feminist but not listened to it yet (I think I might have heard some of it on the Podcast Radio Hour?).
No Such Thing as a Fish looks good, I’ll give that a go.
Fortunately with Fi and Jane is brilliant and I think I’ve listened to all of them...

Not sure if it is a podcast but Athletico Mince is superb. I don't know how to describe it but I will try:

It started as funny off beat football show presented by Bob Mortimer and Andy Dawson but has morphed into a surreal comedy show loosely connected with football and instead focusing on the the bizarre, and mostly untrue, experiences and encounters of the hosts with people from, mostly, football. It consists of what are, essentially, semi libelous skits about Steve McClaren, Mark Lawrenson, Peter Beardsley ( the Beardsley ones are like an ongoing bonkers Alan Bennett monologue - he is off work after trouble with the foreign lads) sweary Mick McCarthy, encounters with Jeremy Corbyn, Dom Littlewood, Bobs trips to South Africa and the pièce de résistance: Gangs of the EPL ( a parody of simpleton, child like footballers involved in a premier league gang culture)

There is also an ongoing joke about Bob now being a celebrity millionaire who has fled the Boro for the rich south while Andy is portrayed as a lower class scumbag living on blue drink and chicken dippers in his Sunderland hovel.

It is completely bizarre, daft, pointless, surreal genius and I urge you to listen to it.

Warning: it has rude words and is for adults. Posters here may struggle with that. it wont appeal to all but it is superb imo.

Here’s a few that I’d recommend:

Reasons to be cheerful with Ed Milliband and Geoff Lloyd.
If you’re a bit left leaning then it’s quite positive and optimistic which is good sometimes.

The All Killa no Filla podcast with Kiri Pritchard-Mclean and Rachel Fairburn.
It’s pretty dark being that it’s about serial killers. But at times it’s interesting, sad and also very funny. Not for the faint hearted though.

Exactly what it says in the title really, Jamie Morton reading his fathers (pen name Rocky Flintstone) attempt at writing an erotic novel to his two friends Alice Levine and James Cooper as they comment on what’s happening to the main character (Belinda Blumenthal a pots and pans sales executive) as it goes on.
Erotic it isn’t. But so so funny.

One I’m quite looking forward to that I’ve heard advertised as coming up on 5 Live is a podcast about the Waco Siege.
I do like the way that podcasts can go into proper detail due to less time constraints when dealing with subjects like this.

There are Treasure Quest-type programs on local BBC radio at weekends. I've tried them all on the iPlayer I think but the best one is Radio Northampton vs Three Counties Radio on Saturday mornings. Three hours of utter bonkers-ness! Very entertaining.

I would also recommend Quickly Kevin will he score - a 90's football podcast led by the comedian Josh Widdicombe. He is someone I find annoying yet the podcast is actually really good. They get on famous football fans, comedians, commentators or 90's players for a chat.

This series has so far has Stuart Pearce, Alastair Campbell, Gary Neville, Alex Brooker and Bobby Gould so quite a varied mix. What is odd is that some of the old footballers really seem to get it.

Like i said find Widdicombe annoying generally but this series is worth a listen. I think it is very good.

I know what you mean about Widdicombe.
Stuart Pearce on the other hand is always excellent to listen to. He was always good on Colin Murray’s show. Speaking of which - Colin Murray’s ‘Blood on the tracks’ is worth a listen (also on the BBC), it’s made by the same team that produce ‘Fighting Talk’.

The first "season", broadcast last year, chronicled the Apollo project from its start up to 1969, in order to fully dissect the Mission Control audio recording of the thirteen minute descent of the Apollo 11's lunar lander to the surface of the moon.

The second season, currently being broadcast, takes the same detailed look at how Apollo 13 went wrong, and was subsequently rescued.

Oh, and the podcast's music is composed by the famed movie composer Hans Zimmer!

"Well There's Your Problem" is an amusing* podcast about engineering disasters, which also includes slides (and John Madden/Alan Hansen-style red pen explanations) if you listen to it on YouTube.

*= some of the humour is of the "gallows" variety, so those of a sensitive disposition may find some of the humour inappropriate.

Clarification: The tragedies talked about are dealt with sympathetically in terms of the victims- the "dark humour" is aimed squarely at those who made fateful decisions, and those who reacted poorly once the disasters happened.
