Plymouth to Staines 6/11

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting although i have been an avid reader for some time of this great forum. On Saturday 6/11 me and 3 friends are travelling from Plymouth to Staines leaving Plymouth at 05:40 and returning from Staines at 1824 in order to connect with the 1932 service from Reading. After reading so much about it on these forums i have tried splitting tickets to save a little money. So my question is if i split tickets at TAU, CLC and NBY and then use these day returns in conjunction with Groupsave 4 will i be travelling legitimately because it almost seems too good to be true. Thanks in advance for any help.

As long as none of the trains are operated by XC.

The trains are all operated by FGW (Plymouth to Reading) and SWT (Reading to Staines), both of whom accept GroupSave.
