Just an update: I received a reply from Scotrail this afternoon (presumably re: plusbus):

Thank you for contacting ScotRail. Under the terms of our Passengers' Charter, we aim to respond to all claims/correspondence within 7 working days.

Never mind 7 days, it's almost been seven weeks! I know we've had a lot of bank holidays, but come on! I'll let you know what they say about the whole thing if and when they get back to me (probably by Christmas at this rate...)

It used to be possible to get an XC-only Motherwell to Edinburgh single for 80p (now withdrawn) which qualified you to get PlusBus for Edinburgh at £2 with a 16-25 Railcard, cheaper than day tickets on the bus and inter-operator!

Picking up an earlier point, the only tickets that should be issued on Gold Card stock are Annual rail only seasons or Travelcards for "qualifying journeys". (i.e. where the origin station is in the Network Area, or the issuing station and either the origin, destination or both is in the Network Area).

Child rate tickets, paper tickets for holders of 18+ Student Oyster photocards, bearer passes, PRIV seasons, local bus/rail seasons and Freedom Tickets and season tickets for dogs and 'Accompanied Animals and Articles' should NEVER be issued on Gold Card stock.

Cheers,

Barry

I didn't know you could get a season ticket for accompanied animals/articles. From cross-referencing the Avantix Traveller data files with the RJIS data feed spec for fares (page 47), I've worked out that an AAA discount is calculated by taking 50% of the full adult fare, but capped at a maximum fare that depends on whether the ticket is first or standard class, single or return. For both first and standard singles this maximum is £5, and for first and standard returns this maximum is £10. But a season ticket is neither a single or return, so how do you calculate what the AAA fare should be? It doesn't seem possible from the information given in the RJIS spec, so this led me to believe that you couldn't buy an AAA season.

I'm not entirely sure myself, but the list of seasons you can't get a Gold Card for explicitly states it...Possibly a remnant from Retail Manual days and has never been revised?

Very, very old thread, I know, but I'd like to let you all know how I got on.

I fired an e-mail off to Scotrail yesterday, and this morning they sent me a £5 goodwill gesture (in the form of Rail Travel Vouchers) for the whole incident and confirmed that the tickets are available.
