Plusbus only £1 in June

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but the PlusBus add on is only £1 in June, apart from for a few selected towns. Also strangely the PlusBus website says some TOCs websites are not offering the extra discount, including East Coast.

Yep it has been offered by 'thetrainline' in conjunction with PlusBus so you will find that TOC's advertised will be the one's using 'thetrainline' system.

There are just two places in the country that I could justify buying a PlusBus ticket for.

Why am I not surprised that one of them [Newport] is in the list of "no go" locations, even though there are just six such locations?

...are they all predominantly served by a local company, e.g. Reading Buses, or is it me? I know that some - Swindon for instance - have at least some major company service (Stagecoach), but on a local level and not inter-urban?

Just checked this one...

Courtney Coaches, who recently took over many Bracknell services previously operated by First and are notable to me for running the Sunday service on route 190 (Bracknell - Wokingham - Winnersh - Earley - Reading), would appear to have a monopoly on town services in Maidenhead, and also run several other services in the town. They are an independent company founded in the early 70s.

However, the other argument is this. There are other localities in the country where the major operator is independent or council-owned. Further, in some cases they operate their own individual infrastructure; in Ipswich, for example, most operators use the Old Cattle Market bus station - but Ipswich Buses use their own one at Tower Ramparts!

I know that you can'[t get any further discounts (railcards etc..) on these but you have to pay full price when buying them in conjunction with tickets with a Family Railcard discount!

Also, when promotional plus bus is issued as a separate coupon then in the route field it says: PLUSBUS OFFER something which I found odd as its not a route!
