Every time I’ve been on one of the Avanti Euston-Birmingham ‘semi-fast’ services, it’s used platform 2 at Rugby.

This seems like an odd choice of timetabling, given that it then has to return all the way back over the Down Fast / DTVF and onto the Down Coventry. Why not just use platform 1 and avoid having to cross the whole formation? I can’t see any conflicts with other services using platform 1, is it perhaps due to the turnout speed off the DF approaching Rugby?

Apart from one service they are all booked to use platform 1.

The move off the Down Fast into P1 used to be grim, but its now got a flashing aspect on it. Scanning RTT shows they are using 1 most of the time as well and not being re-platformed.

I’ve evidently caught the same train regularly without realising :D

There is one service timed for P2, and that is a bit of a fudge to accommodate a once weekly test train or similar rarity. It’s being looked at, as the move often casues delay due to there being a freightliner on minimum headway behind, so if the Avanti service is late it causes quite a mess.

Always wondered why that one service omits WFJ and the ‘flyer’ calls there instead. Makes sense if it needs to get to rugby quicker to make the path.

Sorry I can’t easily find this for some reason, which Freightliner train is right behind?

9G29 Euston - New St Plat 2 1610-1612
4M88 Felixstowe - Ditton Plat 2 16/16
4M47 Gateway - Hams Hall Plat 2 16/20.5

1S78 then 1H70 are on the DFL 16/17 and 16/20

The train in P1 is suppressed.

Ahhhhh thank you Bald Rick! Appears that service was CAN’d the day I looked which explains why it didn’t show up!

Yes cancelled today, although it just meant that 4M47 ran early in it’s path (previous post amended to show what else is around).
