Attached are some pictures of platform tickets I have bought over the last 4 months.

2 questions:
  1. Why are the tickets themselves different? (Regular NR ticket vs receipt-style)
  2. Why do some of them cost 20p and others 10p? I thought it was 10p across the whole network.

Has the price of platform tickets, where available, possibly been increased to 20p with effect from the recent fares revision date?

I should also point out I found another Waterloo platform ticket in a coat pocket today, from the 21st of December, receipt-style and 20p.

This means there were 2 different types of platform ticket and 2 different prices for it on that 455 Farewell day!

I'm not entirely sure that these "tickets" are defined in any central data feed, so it will be up to whatever the ticketing issuing supplier decides to set them up as, at whatever cost they're asked to do so at (or maybe some systems ask the staff member for the cost!).

I believe the TOC can set the price in some TIS.
In Worldline (e.g. SWR) and TTK (e.g. GWR) for example... the staff member using the system manually inputs the price. It is not predefined. Typically as `0.10` GBP.

On STAR (e.g. Scotrail, TfW) the fare is set and can't be changed by the staff member.

Perhaps in the discrepencies above, the staff member was unsure? Or there is some new internal policy.

I am pretty sure the price can be defined, and it is certainly the case that the ability to issue platform tickets can be disabled.
Might be possible, but the ToCs I mentioned do not do it, so it's open to human error if staff enter something other than 0.10 GBP as per https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ticket-types/tickets/ptf/
Ah the 20p ones are returns, they let you leave again when you're finished.
But... "You'll never leave!"

Now that I think about it, the regular 'ticket' style ones don't actually work in the barriers, I always had to get a staff member to wave me through.
