Platform Projects

There are platform extention projects going on in SW Scotland from Glasgow, and on FCC's Great Northern routes, but are there any more planned? Also, I know of proposals for new platforms at huddersfield (p9), maryport and Cambridge, but are there any more planned etc? Thanks guys

What sort of timescales are you looking at ?? Some stations on the West Coast will have minor works for 11 car Pendos, such as Wolves and Preston. Stalybridge is more or less started from scratch when that is re-signalled and re-modelled. Coventry is planned to have the Nuneaton bay put in but Id expect that to get slashed in the cuts. Pontypridd is getting a platform in next few years. Cardiff will get the mythical Platform 5 when its re-signalled. Honeybourne will get an extra one.

Hmm, maybe 5 and 6 (5 for terminating SB Euston/Bhm trains) and 6 for the occasional IC stuff it gets 3 and 4 are fine though - 1 and 2 maybe too

Watford Jnc will have a small extension on the north end of platform 9 for 11 coach Pendolinos. Exciting eh...

Most Thameslink (north) stations are currently being extended for 12 car.

c2c and SN routes are undergoing platform extension projects for 10 or 12 car services. Thes have been announced in NR press releases, but neither had lists of stations IIRC...

There's no firm timetable, but there is a fairly vague aspiration to run 12 car services to Cambridge from Liverpool Street- currently the stops at Chesunt, Broxbourne and (correct me if I'm wrong) Harlow Town are a barrier to the "semi-fast" services being this long. Chesunt is a pretty intractable block to this idea- there's a level crossing, with no space fr a road bridge, at the north end, and a junction at the south. It provides interchange for passengers from the Seven Sisters route to stations to the north, so can't be so easily cut from the stopping pattern.

Isn't 12-car already in at Cheshunt?

Ah, their only 9. Suppose you could rejig the junction to the , dunno what you'd do at Broxbourne - extend the loops?
