Platform faces - widest

Yes, so really the answer to the question is to find the station with the narrowest single island platform.

I'd nominate one of the Glasgow Underground stations, although as they are below ground level, the circumference of the earth will be slightly less...

Ideally it should probably be as near as possible to an East/West axis to take account of the planet being slightly egg shaped (I know that's not the technical term but you know what I mean).

How about Pencoed? Given that the platforms are offset, you could either measure diagonally from the edge of Platform 1 to the edge of Platform 2; or you could go around the world a few times in a "spiral" motion!

As far as the LSWR mainline goes, Farnborough Main is slightly wider than most of the original island platform stations. Hook and Winchfield have had their islands removed and the remaining gap is about 21.5m, likewise Walton on Thames and Esher have islands remaining but out of use, the overall gap between the outer platform edges is again about 21.5 m. (Google Earth accuracy!)

Is it possible Farnborough is slightly wider than the norm for the line because it has a more significant curve?

Normal four track width, just less than 13m - the large gaps further up the line result from disused or removed central islands. Eastleigh never had that layout, the up side was an island of similar shape to the down side (ie with a curved loop platform) until the early 80s though.

My local, Hook should be a contender. Width of Farnborough, but I think the gap left by the former island is bigger. I'll go down the road with a tape measure, shall I?

Calm down, I see you mentioned Hook, but I did not see you made a measurement. Looks like Farnborough is the widest.
