Platform "DML"

Anyone know what platform "DML" could mean as stated on Live Departure Boards this evening? - as shown on the attachment

Not being familiar with Wellington (Salop) it could be Down Main Loop or Down Main Line.

It may mean "Down Main Line"?

Possibly they're non-stopping the train due to late-running?

I'd have thought if it were running non-stop through Wellington then it would have Cancelled on it.

It must be Down Main Loop (Platform 2). The centre roads do not have platforms. Platform 3 is a bay so cannot be used.

So it must be platform 2.

It could be Down Main Line - but not showing as a platform because it is not stopping? Just a guess though.

Yes, that's right.

Anyway it called at platform 2.

It's showing on CCL as on p2. So you were right in that respect Yorkie - however I don't think it would be Down Main Loop.

I would disagree with you (after getting his trusty Quails out of the drawer) the platforms at Wellington are on loops.

Platform 2 is on the Down Main Loop but what is the significance (if any) of stating "DML" in preference to Platform 2 - the next train in the same direction states "2".

The service appears to have stopped at Wellington as stations further along the route are now showing an actual departure time for Wellington on LDB.

DML in planning would mean Down Main Line. Its perfectly possible for someone to have ballsed up and put DML instead of the correct platform in the schedule.

Why would it be Down main loop then, if there is only one loop then there can't be another, so if it was described as a loop (which I'm not entirely sure it is) then surely it would be just the down loop?

EDIT: Thanks "The Planner", confirms my suspicions were correct!

Rather than the most important of the Down loops, it would be a loop off the Down Main.

Actually I've cross referenced it & got confused (but that's probably the effects of he cider I'm drinking!) and now found it and it is Down Platform Line.

I remember Rugby departure screens showing a late evening Virgin service to Manchester as stopping on the DFL.

Interestingly I have seen this tried on a couple of times! First time the train was set back to cross on the points at the south end to access P2 and on the other occasion it went forward down the Coventry line before reversing back into P1!

The Wrexham and Shropshire service calling at Wellington in the next half hour showed "DML" as the platform again...... and then changed to 2 at the specified arrival time
