Has the actual itinerary booked been posted? I can't spot it but may have missed it.

Unfortunately I'm not sure there's much more anyone can say to help without that information. I note that the thread title refers to a platform being changed, but again, without knowing which services exactly the customer was booked on it's difficult to guess if something actually changed.

If the customer was on the correct platform for their booked service but this then changed, it's a different situation to whether they were on the wrong train just because.

On the basis of RTT, people have noted that the 1003 XC was switched to 7, which was also the booked platform for the 1015 Avanti. No other pair of trains fits the OP's description, but it is still only surmise.

It wouldn't be the first time there has been a discrepancy in the PIS with a short notice platform change and a same destination can easily be overlooked when passengers are stressed due to a platform change. The second service to leave could well have already been on the boards for platform 7, and the changed service may have overwritten it, or not done so at all. There are more questions that need to be answered before any more advice can be given, it may be an entirely different situation altogether.

Thanks for all the discussion over the past few days. My relative on arriving at Birmingham from Hereford last week found that there had been a platform change for his train to Edinburgh, and was told by a member of staff which platform to go to for his Edinburgh train ( though the staff member didn’t ask how he was ticketed or tell him there were 2 Edinburgh trains from that platform ). When he realised his mistake he got off the incorrect slower train ( at Tamworth I think) and there had to buy his Additional £100 ticket in order to arrive in Aberdeen the same day . Later on the journey his train was stopped and delayed Around 75 minutes by trespassers on the line . This had a positive outcome for him, as he was able to claim a full refund on the new ticket owing to the lengthy train delay ! His return journey will be different - sailing with 2 relatives round northern Scotland to Cardiff !

Thanks for clearing things up and good fortune that he will get all the money back...!
