Disruption yesterday meant that the 10.38 to SCA departed from platfrom 4, holding up the Liverpool train. Any kind soul out there tell me if there are any booked workings to Scarborough that use platform 4?

TIA.

Not as far as I know but it does get used sometimes especially if the incoming train from Liverpool is running late and Platform 5 is busy.
I've never known it used to the detriment of the incoming train from Scarborough though.
Such a shame that we no longer have the crossover from other platforms and Scarborough Curve:D

Thought not, only see it used when other trains are blocing the platforms and 4 is the only one free. Aye yesterday it forced the Liverpool train to wait at Bootham signal, thought they might have let the Liverpool train through first but didn't. Not much they could do yesterday seeing as a oyager was in platform 5 for a good half hour going nowhere.

Are there no longer any summer weekend extras that just work between York and Scarboro?

Don't think so, although there did seem to be more use of platform 2 last year for some reason. There was even a working from platform 3 towards Scarborough that must be extremely rare, since they could have used 4.

Platform 2 got a lot of use last year while Scarborough was being remodelled and we suffered a special timetable for about a month.
I seem to recall that there was an extra SO YRK-SCA TPX return trip in the summer but as I've just had a clear out of old timetables I can't check.
I've only seen Platform 3 used for Scarborough bound trains while they were refurbishing the canopy over 4 & 2 and 5 was occupied (was that last year?).

Don't think the canopy refurb was last year, or at least I can't remember it. That time I saw 3 being used the 185 came in from the south and sat at the northbound signal, only then did the platform change from 5 to 3. Shorter distance to walk although did mean that the through line was blocked for 5 minutes.

Ah! Timetabled after a fashion...last years Fridays only Crewe to Scarborough steam specials (Princess hauled when I clocked it) used 3, which provided splendid photo ops with the old outer office box in the background. Usually steam excursions, including the spa express, uses 5.

This year anyone?

TransPennine Express WILL be running 2 or 3 York to Scarborough (and return) "shuttle" services on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer period (exact dates to be advised). These should be planned to use platform 2 at York.
Timings will be similar to those run in previous years; I think 09.28, 11.28 and 12.28 ex-York on Saturday, returning at 10.30 and 12.30 from Scarborough. In both directions, they are designed to provide relief for the Liverpool train running 10-15 minutes later.
On Sundays, the trains run to make York - Scarborough hourly at times of the day when it would otherwise be two-hourly.

As it was in my day, when the hourly Trans-Pennine loco hauled mostly went to Scarborough, but about one out of three went to Newcastle. In those hours a 31 + mk I compo grotstock went off platform 2 (or 7 as it then was) to Scarborough.
