Is the 11 Chester to Rhyl a through service or is a change of bus in Holywell required?

I am going to connect onto the 12 to Abergele. On the return journey back towards Chester as the connections reliable. I'm thinking of getting the last possible service and will change between the 12 and 11 at Rhyl

Am I likely to have any issues getting a Concession 1 Bus ticket from the driver? I assume they are used to issuing these?

I'll be spending some time with family who live in Abergele/Pensarn and am looking at suggestions for day trips?

We've been to Rhyl already so are going to go to Llandudno one day and Conwy another.

Any other suggestions welcome?

Not sure about the ticket but the 11's are though between Chester and Rhyl.

The last through link is the 19:30 from Rhyl, arriving into Chester 21:41/21:45 depending on the day. To make this connection, I would be aiming for a 12 which is scheduled into Rhyl at 19:00. The 12s can have a habit of running late or if there is a driver shortage, the 12 will be the first route to get dropped. Give yourself plenty of connection time at Rhyl.

Finally, am I likely to have any issues getting a Concession 1 Bus ticket from the driver? I assume they are used to issuing these?

You shouldn't. These are issued and accepted on all Arriva services in North Wales.

I was thinking that the 12 might run late into Rhyl as I believe there can be a lot of traffic on the road going through Pensarn in the summer.

To make the 11 at 19.30 I see there is a 12 arriving into Rhyl at 19.23. This would be cutting it fine. So I will go for the one arriving at 19.08 or 18.53

No way I would risk the 1923 arrival!

Personally, I would aim for the 1853 which should give time for a quick drink/snack and toilet break before enduring 2 hours+ on the 11 bus!

Denbigh is nice had a look around the town then went to the castle , bit of a climb as its steep also the Welsh mountain zoo near Colwyn Bay never been myself but going to go this year.

St Asaph for the cathedral could be easily combined with Dinbych/Denbigh.

Chester is obviously do-able from Abergele. Three quarters of an hour journey time by train.

Are these destinations accessible by bus? We'll be based in Pensarn. She holds a Wales concessionary travel pass so can travel for free on the buses. I hold an English Concession pass so can get a 1 Bus Ticket for £4.50.

I also hold a disabled person's Railcard so if we get the train from Abergele we'll both get a discount.

Abergele is as far as I know only served by buses that run along the coast so you would have to change en route at Rhyl or Llandudno.
