Planning a rare trip out!

My wife is going shopping in Blackburn when we go to Accrington next month and I've put my foot down and said I'm not going in that Mall at Blackburn ever again!

So I've negotiated a day on the trains using a Lancashire Day Rover.

My plan is purely to travel to/through stations I've not done before. I've done a bit of Lancs already so I'm not hitting certain parts deliberately.

This is what I've got - can anyone see any immediate problems?

Thought you might do the Todmorden Curve. But as per your travel plan I cant see anything wrong Colne trains tend to run a bit late but as plenty of time at Blackburn theres no problem.

I did Hebden to Todmorden recently, so I've done "the curve" when I went SCA-LDS-TOD-ACR.

Yeah I've seen the Colne-Blackpool South train has problems from time to time but hoping I'll be ok. So long as I don't get stuck in Nelson or somewhere I'll be able to come up with a contingency I'm sure.

What goes up must come down. Assuming no unit breakdowns, the worst likelihood is being turned back short at St Anne's or Nelson.

Starting at 0843 and going to Colne first would get you to Clitheroe an hour earlier.

The ticket isn't valid until 8:45 though!

Edit - isn't it 8:38 from Accrington? Could obviously get a single to Rose Grove (£3.20) to cover me which I wouldn't mind if needed - the hour early at Clitheroe sounds better anyway. Will see if that feeds through the whole circuit.

Granted, I'm only passing through them, but for the casual basher, that's good enough for me!

Only issue is you will get bored and absolutely sick to death of that pacer!!

Whilst the rover isn't officially valid at 08:43, a nice word with the guard will, in my experience, likely see it accepted.

You may wish to consider that the ranger is valid on the 10:04 Carlisle service from Preston as far as Silverdale, which is a Class 37 loco hauled diagram.

Im confused? do you mean the first time the OP reaches Blackburn, the second time or the third time?

Thanks guys - I'm not fussy on my train types! My goal is to hit new stations, and think this does 21 of them. Pacer or HST, they all get me from A to B and that's what I'm after!

Might even see if the plan works with a 9:43 service, gives me a more sociable time to start that way.

Just 1 question that I am surprised no one has asked yet. Weekday or weekend? The 08:43 doesn't exist on a weekday but there aren't any restrictions on weekends.

It looks like a weekday from other things that have been mentioned (namely the 08:45 time constraint on the ticket)

You may even get lucky with the NRDMUG (Northern Random DMU Generator) and it might give you some 150s rather than the delightful 142s
