Plain line (high output) track renewals

Network Rail have announced;-

Bringing in house the high output team currently employed by AmeyCOLAS will create a less complex organisation with greater stability. It will support our commitment to further improvements in workforce safety, train performance and value for money and enable long term investment in people and machinery to support our track renewals programme. Around 1,200 people work on the high output programme, around half of whom are affected by this announcement.

The aim is to complete the transfer of all affected people to direct employment with Network Rail within the current financial year (2014/15).

We will work jointly with AmeyCOLAS to deliver high output track renewals up to the point of transfer and are now working closely with both the RMT and TSSA to manage a smooth transfer of the people affected.

No Amey Colas is a different company to Colas Railfreight. In any event the high out put kit is hauled by Frieghtliner.

that is a contract with Amey Colas , so NR may change haulier !

I don't think a major insourcing decision like this has any connection to which types of locos are used for renewals work.
NR will still need haulage contracts for all its renewals work, whoever is doing it.
Colas has in any case won significant chunks of the other renewals contracts (plain line conventional and S&C).
