Places to Photograph in devon

Hi i was wondering where are good places to photograph trains in devon between Tiverton Parkway and Newton abbot

The obvious one is St Davids, which has all manner of units (142, 143, 150, 153, 158, 159, 220, 221, HST). I've never tried it there but I've never had a problem at any other FGW location, so I don't suppose there would be. If you want "beautiful" shots, head for the Sea Wall around Dawlish.

There are several good locations in that area, here are some of them:-

Cockwood Harbour near Starcross.
Langstone Rock Dawlish Warren
The sea wall at Dawlish and Tiegnmouth
Rockstone bridge Dawlish
Shaldon Bridge
Skew Bridge Tiegnmouth

Yep, you can use the train between Starcross and Tiegnmouth, just jump on the stopper (Exmouth - Paington) or the bus. Not sure if the bus still goes down the road along the Warren anymore.

On arrival at Teignmouth you can walk to Shaldon bridge, Skew bridge and all along the sea wall.

On arrival at Dawlish Warren you can walk to Langstone Rock and again along the sea wall.

On arrival at Dawlish you can walk to Rockstone bridge and again along the sea wall.

Only in the summer IIRC. Couple of less pretty but good in terms of beer spots are the Double Locks and Turf Locks.

Double Locks is about a 30 min walk from the city centre along the canal, Turf is best reached by a ferry from Topsham or from the Double Locks

A good spot (though not near a bus stop) is Stoke Woods, you can get trains running through the Exe Valley towards Tiverton. You can walk it in about 30 mins from the city centre (though up a very long and steep hill)

Have a look at my Youtube (link in sig), I try and use different spots to the majority...

How do you get there from tiverton on the bus ???

If you get the direct bus (55 I think) and alight either in Stoke Canon or at Cowley Bridge and walk from there to the Stoke Woods Car Park, then follow the map (displayed at the Car Park) to the viewpoint. This isn't recommended though - walking along the A396 isn't fun.

Other option would be to walk from the Exeter Bus Station, walk up Longbrook Street and keep walking until you get to the other Stoke Woods Car Park, then just walk along the woodland paths to the view point. Be warned though that Stoke Woods are popular for other sorts of photography (ie NSFW) though they are nice people you might be a little shocked

As mention the local stopper train is the best method - there's no comparing Tiverton to the sea front around Dawlish - it's spectacular down there - the trains get quite a lean on coming around the corner at red-rock and you are as close as you can safely get to fast moving stuff.
If the weather is bad the sea will be breaking over the line.

When I was down last year they had double decker buses turning round outside the Sunburnt Arms pub and going back up the hill to get to Starcross that way? Didnt think a double decker could negotiate Cockwood Harbour

They used to when it was the 85/85A, however since they've introduced Enviro 400s they avoid the harbour, it was a bit of a tight squeeze, particularly when the grockels park in all sorts of dodgy places.

I went to dawlish and it went very well thankyou for the advice i also went to st davids which i thought went well also thanks for all the advice
