Firstly we're looking for somewhere to eat (ie, a restaurant) that is within easy reach of Warrington Town Centre (preferably in the town centre, though we could go to somewhere like Padgate - the chinese near the station has been recommended to us) on a Saturday night.

Secondly we're looking for somewhere to eat and stop off while cycling (ie, a pub) either in Maghull or an alternative place that is along the route between Aintree and Southport, this is National Cycle route 62 and part of the TransPennine Trail.

We will be cycling from Hunts Cross or Halewood, and we're taking in the Liverpool Loop Line but won't want to stop anywhere along there, the first place we could stop would be Aintree, the route then goes through Netherton, the west side of Maghull, then pretty much the middle of nowhere until Ainsdale (which would be too late) and Southport. If anyone knows of good pubs in the area (with a beer garden if the weather is good - means we don't have to worry about leaving the bikes unattended) that would be much appreciated.

Restaurant - as suggested in a PM, the Hoi Tin is the best Chinese in the centre of Warrington. The Padgate Rose (Chinese) is also good and close to Padgate Station.

As for pubs, I've heard good reports of the Scotch Piper in Lydiate which is not far off the trail:-

not been there myself though! I will ask a friend who lives in Maghull.

I've had this place recommended:-
Scarisbrick Arms, Downholland

Thanks. The one at Lydiate may suit us, but if possible we'd like one a bit earlier on the ride, do you (or anyone) know of anything suitable near Warbreck, Aintree or Netherton?
