Wroclaw-
Try Academus on kielbasnicza just off the main square- has a small bar with a few quality interesting Polish beers on tap.
Very friendly, the affable landlady is happy to chat in fluent English and her husband is a beer enthusiast.
There is a restaurant downstairs too.

The brewbar Spiz under the town hall serves ok beer but is overpriced, hectic and was uncomfortably crowded when i visited.

Had a nice meal in an Armenian restaurant in the arches beneath the railway lines along Wojciecha Bogusławskiego just along from the station. There are a couple of lively late bars and cafes along here too, away from the tourists.

Ceske Budejovice-
It's a bit of a tourist cliche , but you can't go far wrong in Budvarka on the main square. The food is typical Bohemian stuff (the roast duck is lush :) ) reasonably priced and the beer is spot on (it's a Budvar pub). Been back a few times and always enjoyed it. Also i usually call into the beer hall opposite the bus station/shopping mall over the road from the station- it's a typical noisy, smoky Czech dive, no English spoken but the budvar flows fast all day, is dirt cheap and tastes heavenly!

Plzen- only eaten once here, at U salzmannu off the square. Nice food and Urquell beer.

PS if you are into beer and have the time, try the brewery tours in Plzen and Ceske Bud too, if nothing else just to taste the stuff fresh from the barrels in the cellars!

I had an afternoon in Plzen a couple of years ago and imbibed in Na Parkánu which is a bar/restaurant just off the main square. I found it friendly and English was spoken. They told me it was the only place where you could get unfiltered Urquell. To be honest, beer was my only priority but it looked a decent place for a bite.

You probably already know this, but just in case it's worth checking out Zelpage-

http://www.zelpage.cz/?lang=en

under 'train compositions' to find out what will be working your trains, for example your run up to Jesenik could be either an 810 railbus (pacers seem luxury after one of these) or class 754 hauled loco and stock!

HTH

PS- talking of Jesenik, it's hardly Gordon Ramsey but the noodle bar in the town centre serves a canny plate of food if you just want something post pivo :)

PPS and do try Holba beer in Jesenik too- V nice.

Already checked and crossmatched with zelpage and vagonweb. I think the CD and ZR Railbuses are quaint, especially with the lounge area at one end v useful for prams, bikes and goats, yes i've seen goats loaded at Kacov, v nice brewpub there.

That's a useful looking site. Does it have a translator? I couldn't spot one.

Is it possible to get the main news items in English? There is a Union Flag to click on at the top left but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Didn't know about the brewpub though- i'll keep that in mind for next time- cheers!

Get off at Kacov Zastavka and go over the river follow the road to the left, turn left at the crossroads and the road starts to go between farm buildings in the building on the left thru a wooden dr is the brewpub that does food, they dnt speak english. Pacifika Heritage Rail Group with CD run excursions frm here at weekends at around 0830 frm Praha Smichov with heritage diesel and stock with observation car with barrel of beer at 16 korona per 500ml.

Been to the Beroun one.

Bear left outside the station, past the block of flats and follow the road alongside the railway into the scrapyard.
You'll see a building on the right with the brewery name on the door- not sure if it's an office or off sales?- turn right after this a few metres deeper into the yard and the brew pub is well marked on the left! It sounds complicated but it's only about 5-10 mins walk.

Two nice beers on tap when I visited, no English spoken and a reasonable and inexpensive food menu. Felt a bit like a locals bar when I visited on a midweek afternoon, pleasant enough atmosphere.

And yes, there were scrap armoured cars laid about!
