IC Koziołek collided with a cement mixer! Driver injured, passenger dead
In Sokolniki Suche, near Przysucha, a PKP Intercity train collided with a concrete mixer and derailed. Twenty people were injured, four of them seriously. Railway line 22 has been closed to all traffic.
The train that derailed after hitting a concrete mixer was IC 2820 Koziołek, a Lublin-Szczecin line. It was carrying approximately 120 people. One woman on board was killed.
"The [train] driver is in severe shock and has a cut on his head," Mateusz Gdowski from the PKP Intercity press team told us. Two other passengers and the driver were also taken to the hospital.
The remaining passengers were taken to a community center in Przysucha, where they are being examined by medical personnel. Once the examination is complete, they will continue their journey by substitute bus service (buses are ready from 1 p.m.) or by ŁKA shuttle trains (and, for the remainder of the route, also by means of POLREGIO services), mutual ticket acceptance is in place.
The leading locomotive (EP09-046) tipped over onto its side. As can be seen in the available photos, individual carriages are also heavily scattered. Most of them (6) derailed due to the collision, and some were thrown onto the opposite track.
According to the State Fire Service, approximately 30 firefighting units are on site, including specialized medical and technical rescue teams. The deputy commander of the Masovian Voivodeship State Fire Service responded to the scene.
PKP PLK reports that the crossing was protected by flashing railway crossing lights. According to PKP PLK data, 17 accidents and collisions occurred at level crossings and railway crossings in August of this year. These resulted in seven fatalities and two seriously injured people. This is a similar number to the August of last year.
