Pictures on SD card to I pad transfer

I have a large number of images on SD cards which I want to transfer to my I pad .

There is some kind of adapter I need . Anyone tell me exactly what J need to buy ?

If you google "transfer sd card to ipad" it comes up with some good suggestions

Or insert the card into a laptop, upload to something like Dropbox or Google Drive and then download to iPad. Bit of more of a faff than an adapter but it's free.

Don't use Google Photos unless you're happy with their image compression.

There is an Apple made adapter for just this purpose. Insert the cable ( in my case a lightning connector) into the ipad and the contents of the SD are recognised and options to download are enabled. I was surprised that it recognised raw files and converted them for display on the ipad.

I use a generic usb C card reader on a fairly recent iPad. A few years ago they only really worked seamlessly with photos, but that changed with introduction of the Apple “files app” and it now reads everything (I reckon most common file formats) on a card.
