The Piccadilly Line is suspended due to a signal failure at Russell Square. Of course, because otherwise it'd be too easy, my final destination is Russell Square... I'm currently on a rammo District Line train from Hammersmith, but does anyone know - from either insider knowledge or previous experience - (1) how long the Piccadilly Line usually takes to recover from a signal failure, and (2) what the signal failure was caused by?

Can there really be a meaningful typical recovery time? Surely it depends on just far too many factors such as the nature of the signal problem, the time to fix the problem, the location of the drivers etc?

I think with the fact that the Piccadilly was still somewhat recovering from the minor delays due to a passenger being taken ill earlier that morning and then the fire alert at Finsbury Park, it took much longer to get everything back on track. Think service resumed properly at around 8pm or so. Had to get the Chiltern instead.

Two eastbound automatic signal failed approaching Russell Square 09.35, trains passing through area under authority and RTO Response Technical Officer called to site.
Investigation starts 10.25, traction current discharged for safety shortly after.
Defective trainstop contact box identified, staff withdrawn to platform 10.50.
Replacement part arrived Holborn 11.15, taken to site by train, normal signals restored 11.40, all clear given 11.50.

As said above, recovery compounded by fire reported in tunnel at Finsbury Park 13.35, LFB attended, investigation conducted, all clear given 14.00.

Hope that explains how delays start and recovery is so time consuming.
