Does anyone know about the new security regulations in Austria regarding
taking pictures on railway stations.

Apparently the security threat has reached OBB, and a permit has to be obtained.

I have tried to get more details from them, but nothing as yet.

The new regulations means it is forbidden. Some stations have staff, like "security" in blue overalls for a lot of administrations and to look for photographer but they are not everywhere to see

In mainstation as Vienna, Linz, Salzburg... CAN be a problem, in smaller station not really

as traindriver in Austria I see many photographer beside the rail

I never had any trouble making pictures. Even not in "Wien".

Good location for Passenger and Freight is Wien Praterkai. There you have a mainline on the bridge with station, and if you go down the stairs you find a freight only line.

And there is a "hidden public road" right through the loco works in central vienna.
