Probably downgraded to a lower job grade or put on other duties which doesn't involve interacting with the public.

What an absurd farce the policing is in this country. When did photography become so hated by the authorities?

Fortunately with millions of people now having access to photographic tools etc. on their smart phone and the prices of 'good' cameras dropping within range of casual users, photography is becoming a lot more popular which will make abuses like this case even harder for the police to try and defend.

The trouble with the Police is, well, they are the Law; by which I mean, they're not answerable to anyone; the average person on the street doesn't have any idea of the ins and outs of Anti Terrorism Law or whatever the Police may decide to claim is applicable in any particular situation, so therefore they really can do just whatever they like and it would take a very determined person to even challenge or question it after the event, let alone stand up to them on the spot. That's the basic problem, I think; they really can do just whatever they want to do.

The sad fact is that, whilst the vast majority of police are decent hard working people, trying to protect us and our property from low-life thieves / vandals / worse, there is always a risk that the job may attract a minority of bully-boy types, who enjoy abusing their position & uniform to intimidate others.

I think there has been an overall decline in incidents like these recently, certainly on the railway front. The railway photography problems thread hasn't been updated for ages. Hopefully it's a sign that things are moving in the right direction.

utterly ridiculous. Why, then has police action not been taken against official photographers at my local county show, where they venture into the show ring with motorcycle stunt riders, the heavy horse quadrille where horses and carriages come at you from all angles and horse agility riders? Far more dangerous than a parade.

For those who run our own businesses, we have to provide a satisfactory level of service or we don't get paid. Yet, by law, I must pay my council tax, which ultimately pays this person's wages.

If the police did do their job properly, then lawyers such as represented this boy would have no work

As for burglary etc, then the following report appeared in my local paper. Thieves raided the yard of a local construction company. It wasn't a five minute job, as they broke through the perimeter gates, then the site office, then into a locked cabinet for the keys. They then loaded a truck with equipment and drove it off. The manager is furious, that when the incident was reported, it took several hours before a policeman arrived to investigate the incident
