Photo protection

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but what do you guys do in the way of stopping unscrupulous people downloading your images. I have just starting building a Weebly site for my pics and wonder if I should protect the pics that I intend to upload. Looking at some of the sites listed on this forum they do not get protected.

I don't "protect" them as such, but ensure that every photo has a full copyright notice embedded in the EXIF information (GeoSetter is good for this) and that an appropriate licence is selected for the upload (normally a creative commons non commercial derivative).

So, if someone steals a photo, I've done my bit (which means it's legally enforceable).

If need be there are services which can spot copied images on the web - whereupon you can easily chase them or issue a takedown notice.

I will generally only upload photos with a long edge of about 1400px so they would be of little use to anyone planning to print and always put a small watermark in the corner - but I don't see the point of putting the enormous logos across the centre of an image that some people seem insistent on doing.

Ultimately though, on the web people are going to copy, share and re-upload your images. I would only be upset if I found that people were actively trying to make money from my pictures. Some people on Flickr seem obsessive about it, putting huge watermarks across their images that make them impossible to enjoy - if you are that worried about copying, don't bother to put them online.
