I have a phobia of needles and surgery. And anxiety (not amounting to a phobia) about dentists.
Needles generally, or syringes specifically? (My ex was paranoid about always knowing that any pins or needles were put away as she was convinced that she was going to end up stepping on them).

Really , really hate throwing up , get scared when I see it , or when someone says , even as a joke , that they will be sick

Luckily haven't thrown up for a while now - can even remeber the date last time - 9 March 2012 .

Long may this run of not throwing up continue

I doubt, to be fair, that anyone *likes* throwing up! :)

Ofc , but for me , I'm really scared , more so than others I know , hell even on a plane , looking at the ( empty ) sick bag scares me into thinking I will be sick , even though nothing will happen

Could be nothing though , I don't think anyone likes throwing up !

I don't like heights, although I'm starting to make some progress with conquering my fear of them.

I have developed a mild claustrophobia over the last 15-20 years. It seems to have coincided with the need to have occasional MRI scans.
My mindset is to agonise over possible escape strategies, - shimmy out upwards or downwards. Either way could be difficult with a clip-on frame over the neck/head.
The last one (about 5-6 years ago) was just after my daughter told me about the fire at Winchester Hospital where the building housing the MRI scanner caught fire. I'm not afraid of the clanking scanner itself, it's just the difficulty of getting out that worries me.

Despite working in the entertainment industry an doing a lot of productions that involve working at height, I'm not brilliant with them. I have never been that steady on my legs, i have been known to randomly falll over or lose my balance when walking down the street so i always have that extra concern when I'm on a ladder.

I hate flies in enclosed areas. Loud and disgusting.

Also, stepping on cracks on the pavement. This is a recent, but not so serious phobia.

Trypophobia can affect me one day, and leave me the next. Strange.

Edit: I also used to have a dangerous fear of needles as well, but being vaccinated earlier this year, it doesn't affect me anymore.

I thought I didn't have any until reading this by AlterEgo and yes I don't know if I'd call it a phobia but it's not far off.

Another thing that I'm not keen on is crowded places. It's not that I feel frightened it's more because of being tall (6' 3") and I feel unbalanced like I'm going to fall on someone if I'm in a crowd at a gig or something similar. I don't mind if I'm in it already and it gets busy around me but if I have to move through a crowd standing on other peoples feet or tripping over etc I really can't bear it.

I don't have a phobia about it myself, but I can state with 100% certainty that the last time I threw up was in December 1982.

Without a doubt...Heights! This is a developed phobia with age (started in my 40's - that's not too uncommon). As a youngster I'd quite happily run up the steps to the top of our church tower (130ft) and fool around on the top, but the thought of that now makes me shudder.
Even though I swim almost every day, I don't like to swim in a pool with a very deep end as that long look down makes me feel quite scared! Every so often I can force myself onto something quite high (I recall a walkway at Kew Gardens last year) ..but I don't like it. I get absolutely no sympathy from my other half!

On the principle that there is virtually nothing -- however weird -- that the human race can't come up with, in a few individuals; I Googled "emetophilia". It seems that you guys quoted above, are partly vindicated -- no cites for anyone enjoying the process itself, while it's happening; but a few votes for liking it in retrospect, and / or the blessed feeling after it has happened.

Assorted interesting phobias in the thread, a few requiring looking up. A favourite of mine -- read of somewhere -- is (not to be confused with arachnophobia) -- arachybutyrophobia: a phobia about peanut butter sticking to the roof of one's mouth. I admit to suspecting this one of being dreamed up as a "wind-up", by somebody who then sought to foist it on a gullible world...

Working in a school, my hands are burnt raw from constant washingZ I've got scaly patches and all sorts, every time I touch something before I eat I have to wash my hands again. If I've Brenna to the toilet, I was the leaving as there may be V&D germs on the handles... similarly into the staffroom. I cannot stand being sick. My heart rate goes up, my breathing goes up, my BP hits the floor... I've been in hospital malnourished in the past after I've chosen not to eat or drink for fear of being sick whilst feeling sick.

I do wonder how many of the posters have genuine phobias, that is they affect aspects of everyday life leading to negative outcomes/behaviours that impact on day to day living.

On the basis that 'the only thing to fear is fear itself' I'm going for 'I'm only phobic about phobias'. Not quite true - my detestation of George Galloway may amount to a phobia, I guess.

While it has not been as serious as that , I've fainted on a plane after someone nearby was sick this year on a trip abroad , but it is nowhere near as bad as what you must be going through .

As for not eating , I get similar stuff when I visit India to visit relatives , because I can't be sure if the food is good or not , given the low safety standards . Never been malnourished , though

Beginning to feel like my " phobia " is nowhere as bad as what you must have . Sorry if I kinda trivialized it

What scares me the most is just the mess it leaves and the noises , it's just horrible , and the stench

Wow, crikey. FWIW, I am not even remotely conscientious[1] about washing hands (other than when cooking for others) and I can't remember the last time I threw up for any reason other than excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages (and that not very often at all). So you might want to talk to someone about that to see if you can calm it down a little for the good of your skin.

[1] I do after using the toilet or when actually visibly mucky but that's near enough it.

No way that anyone would get me to fly.

I am a bit claustrophobic - although I use them sometimes, I don't really enjoy being in Pendolinos.

I don't swim - not because of fear, more a lack of ability to stay partly above the water level & breathe, and I don't cycle because I could never balance long enough to keep a bike upright.

I have an unrational dislike of earwigs, although I can pick up spiders & beetles to evict them from the house.

I don't know if it would be called a phobia, but I dislike TV films showing blood & guts in too much gruesome detail, and avoid watching some medical dramas, or programmes with excessive violence.

It's genuinely destroying. As I say, I seriously believe I'm more likely to get an infection with my skin than I am D&V with the state of my hands.

As I say, it's really bad. Come into school, wash my hands. Teach in the classroom - wash my hands for break. Wash my hands coming back into the classroom. Wash in the toilet, wash again after touching toilet door handle and staffroom door handle... I keep children who are feeling sick at least 20m away from me, and I have a real issue about going down into KS1 and EYFS with the 4/5 year olds... It isn't as soul destroying as other phobias, I'm not gripped by it unless I'm feeling sick myself... I know some with emetophobia will not leave their house when it's Norovirus season... I'd wear gloves and not eat if I could. But I'd still wash hands before and after taking them off...
