Phantom train

Can anyone tell me what this is? I'm sure I've heard a train in the Chapel en le Frith area at night before on the mainline (Buxton to Manchester and not the freight line). I may just be imagining it, this is a weird train though.

Probably a railhead treatment train - although the path's in for the whole year, it'll only run around leaf-fall.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

3S50 RHTT service, formed of an Network Rail MPV.

As Tomnick says, such trains only run during October and November,
but are kept 'in the system' year round, as that's easier than creating
and uploading dozens of new paths each September!

it will be an MPV but it could run outside of autumn for weed spray or deicing works
