Why should Network Rail ban all photography, because a few railway staff don't like it?

So security staff at stations is just to stop spotters taking photos of trains?

The comment was tongue in cheek however maybe there should be an area dedicated to the spotters for their photography like there is at airports maybe it could be funded by the spotters themselves and this will stop all this pathetic bickering between spotters and staff

But it is a possibility that in the future TOCs could seek to simply deny access to photographers or other non-travelling entrants to stations. Its a sharp reminder of one of the possible outcomes if the reported challenges and disputes continue.

Nobody can stop a person taking a camera onto a platform or train. Nobody, without a court order, can force anybody to delete a photograph. Ths subject of a photograph does not have to give their permission for the photograph to be taken. Photography on stations or trains is perfectly legal and requires the permission of nobody unless it is for commercial use.

Randomly quoting byelaws, often out of context, proves nothing at all.

Absolutely correct ! .........and any attempt by anyone (railway staff in this case) to remove your camera from you or physical restraint to try and stop you taking photographs IS assault.

I would love to know what the guard thought a terrorist could do with a photo of a signal gantry. Strange how it is never mentioned that none of the recent terrorist attacks on trains have actually involved any photography before-hand, people just got onto the trains carrying explosives.

Correct. What security staff never seem to appreciate is that if you were a terrorist, you'd both already be dead long before any interaction between you could take place :roll:

The thing is, it is the few just like the ones in that video clip that give spotter a bad name and unfortunately all the time you have spotters misbehaving and not abiding by the rules there is always going to be conflict between staff and the folks with the cameras, it's nothing to do with terrorism, surely you good responsible people out there could name and shame some of these idiots who tresspass, do acts that are deemed unsafe and also break the rules and stop them! If it was me and I was interested in photographing trains and it was my passionate hobby I would sure be doing this!
