Can trains switch platforms at petersfield. It looks like after the Railway crossing it changes.

If you mean: can up trains use platform 2 and down trains use platform 1, then I think the answer is "no".
Up trains can leave from platform 2 under certain circumstances because of the crossover on the up side of the station, but there is no signal allowing this to happen normally.

Petersfield was my local station a long time ago - around 1990.
However the signalling is in the process of being replaced and the answer might change, however I don't think there's a significant need for this kind of flexibility.

No. There is a trailing crossover permitting trains from the north to depart back towards Guildford from the down platform, but Down trains can only call at the Down platform and Up trains at the Up platform.

Moves over the crossover in each direction are signalled with Shunt signals. I can't remember (or confirm from GSV) if the crossover is motor-operated or not. I'm fairly sure reversals at Petersfield have happened for engineering works but they could of course have a MOM clipping the points on the day.

IIRC (It's been a while since I saw the plans) the layout will stay exactly the same (within a few meters shuffling about) and the lines will not be bi-directional, but the GPL at the London end of P2 might* be replaced with a Main Aspect signal to allow reversals in normal service. The shunt from the Up line to the down platform will remain as GPLs.

* - I'm very unsure about this point and would need somebody involved in the project to confirm.

I believe most crossovers are now 'motored' in a sense (or are planned to become so shortly) even if they aren't signalled (i.e. this is to prove detection, with the normal detection cut into the existing track circuits and no facility for motoring them across).
